Steel sculpture is a means of expression and the artist is taking this year to use the sculptures to bring attention to the conservation groups who dedicate their work to protecting this endangered animal and many other southwestern inhabitants. The jaguar reserve is aided by ranchers and workers who monitor camera “traps” which keep track and protect the population. Sky Island is researching springs and the changes from climate change, fostering native plants in the region, and doing the science of maintaining health for the biome so that jaguars have a safe and healthy place to roam.
The Jaguar is the largest cat in the Americas. Protected in the Northern Jaguar Reserve in northern Mexico and safe pathways in Arizona aided by Sky Island Alliance , we are hoping to see more motion camera shots. This steel sculpture was built to honor the spirit of Corazon who raised several cubs in Mexico and another steel sculpture honoring Macho B (look at Open Studio Season). The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a wild cat species and the only extant member of the genus Panthera native to the Americas.
Check out the conservation groups and see if you could join and help preserve endangered jaguars: Sky Island Alliance & Northern Jaguar Alliance . The websites are educational and the SIA site has volunteer groups who go on wonderful nature trips.
